Introduction to Sexualized Violence Prevention and Response
This course was created through a collaboration with the Research Universities' Council of BC, which includes Royal Roads University, Simon Fraser University, Thompson Rivers University, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, and University of Victoria. The modules are intended to deliver provincially consistent introductions to information regarding sexualized violence in a post-secondary context. There are two ways to access this course:

Responding to Disclosures for Faculty / Staff
As per policy BRD-25, all TRU employees are required to engage in Responding to Disclosures training. This employee-specific training will provide Faculty and staff with the tools needed to respond in meaningful, trauma informed ways to any member of the TRU community. Participants will need 30-60 minutes to complete this self-paced session. This training is currently available on Deltek, but will be moving to another platform in 2024.
Consent
Over the course of this 60-90 minute session* participants will be given an overview of TRU’s policy, define sexualized violence and it’s various forms, explore the concept of consent and learn the basic skills to navigate conversations and interactions that require it.
* Ideal length is 90 minutes, but SVPR recognizes this can present a challenge for busy schedules. 60 minutes sessions are available but will require facilitators to reduce content and activities.

Bystander Intervention Training
Over the course of this 60-90 minute session* participants will be given an overview of TRU’s policy, define sexualized violence and its various forms, explore the barriers to intervening, and identify and practice the ‘Four D’s’ of active bystander intervention.
* Ideal length is 90 minutes, but SVPR recognizes this can present a challenge for busy schedules. 60 minutes sessions are available but will require facilitators to reduce content and activities.

Responding to Disclosures for Students, Staff and Faculty
Over the course of this 60-90 minute session* participants will be given an overview of TRU’s policy, define sexualized violence and its various forms, and explore the importance of social responses, the barriers to disclosing and challenges in receiving disclosures. Lastly, participants will learn the three steps to receiving disclosures and resources available on and off campus.
*Ideal length is 90 minutes, but SVPR recognizes this can present a challenge for busy schedules. 60 minutes sessions are available but will require facilitators to reduce content and activities.

Events, Campaigns and Collaborative Projects
SVPR has collaborated with campus and community stakeholders on a variety of campaigns, events and grants over the 6 years, some of which include Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Center, Y Women’s Emergency Shelter, Kamloops Immigrant Services, TRU Volleyball, the TRUFA Gender Equity Committee, TRU Trades and Technology, the Wellness Center and the TRU Student Union. Previous years work have focused on opportunities to tailor educational and supportive programming to specific communities, and raising awareness about the issue of sexualized violence and intimate partner violence. Yearly campaigns include The Red Zone and 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence.
