Build your future in law

The TRU Law JD Program is a comprehensive three-year professional degree that prepares graduates to practice law with skill, confidence, and purpose. Students enter from a wide range of academic backgrounds and leave with a deep understanding of Canadian law and the practical ability to apply it.

First year builds the core legal knowledge and skills that underpin everything that follows. In second and third years, students can explore their interests through a broad range of advanced and elective courses taught by faculty who bring their own research and expertise into the classroom. Students may also work directly with a faculty member on a directed research project, pursuing a legal question in real depth.

At TRU Law, education extends well beyond the classroom. Students develop their advocacy skills through mooting from first year onward, with upper-year students having the opportunity to compete in provincial, national, and international moot competitions. Students can also gain hands-on legal experience through the TRU Community Legal Clinic, where they provide free legal assistance to members of the community. Situated on Secwépemc territory, TRU Law integrates Indigenous law and the ongoing work of reconciliation throughout the legal education we provide.
