Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility for TRU programs
  • All TRU Juris Doctor, master’s degrees, and bachelor’s degrees qualify for a PGWP of up to 3 years. CIP codes are for reference only and do not affect eligibility, as IRCC does not apply field-of-study restrictions to these program types. Learn more here.
  • For all other programs, field-of-study requirements may apply, and students should check the PGWP eligibility column, program length, and listed CIP code for details.
  • Programs marked as PGWP‑eligible meet the application requirements. Graduating from a PGWP‑eligible program may make you eligible to apply, but a PGWP is not guaranteed. All PGWP decisions are made solely by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Learn more about the PGWP here.

Reference Notes

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility for Trades Foundation programs less than 32 weeks (8 months) in length.

  • As per Policy ED 8.0 Section VII-a , one week of full-time trades training at TRU equals one academic credit. For example, a 24-week Trades Foundation program is 24 credits, which meets the requirement for a two-semester program.
  • Although your transcript will show the program length in weeks, TRU will provide a letter confirming that your Trades Foundation program is academically equivalent to two semesters, or eight months, of full-time study to support your PGWP application.
  • Please note that PGWP eligibility is determined solely by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). IRCC makes the final decision on whether a PGWP is issued.
