Admission Requirements

Competition for admission to the Veterinary Technology program is extremely intensive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invitation to an orientation session or admission into the program.

The application period: October 1st ~ February 1st of each year

ALL REQUIRED COURSES AND ADMISSION DOCUMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BY THE APPLICATION DEADLINE

Educational Requirements:

  1. Grade 12 or equivalent
  2. English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 or equivalent, with a minimum of C+
  3. Foundations of Mathematics 11 or equivalent, with a minimum of C+
  4. Life Sciences 11 (formerly Biology 11) or equivalent, with a minimum of C+
  5. Strongly recommend Anatomy & Physiology 12 (formerly Biology 12) or BIOL 0600 as in the first semester students must have a working knowledge of animal anatomy to perform physical examinations including eye and ear exams on live patients. For patient safety, tasks such as understanding anatomical locations and basic physiology MUST be developed prior to the program to ensure student success.

If you have (or have courses-in-progress to meet) the above requirements, please proceed to apply to the program through EPBC (EducationPlannerBC). Once your application is processed, you will be given a TRU Student ID (T-ID).

Mandatory Application Documents

  1. Transcripts. All transcripts from high schools and post-secondary schools must be issued directly to TRU from the institution(s) attended.

  2. Proof of Canadian Citizenship (copy of birth certificate or passport) or copy of permanent resident card if not a Canadian citizen.
  3. Resume/CV. Note relevant work experience, any certification(s) or award(s), if applicable.
  4. Registered Veterinary Technologist interview. Interview a certified veterinary professional. You will receive a web link to provide this document after submitting your application.
  5. Know, Wonder, Learn Questionnaire. Watch video 1 & video 2 and complete a know, wonder, learn questionnaire. You will receive a web link to provide this document after submitting your application.
  6. Introduction Video. Create a 4-7-minute introductory video.
  7. Three references. One referee must be from animal related work or volunteer experience; the other two may be from non-animal work or volunteer experience. References from family members or friends are not considered suitable for this requirement.
    A web link to a fillable online referee form will be provided to you to send to your referees after submitting your application.
  8. If you are a permanent resident of Canada or a Canadian citizen but did not complete your high school or post-secondary education in Canada, you will need to provide a Language Proficiency test – such as a TOELF or IELTS meeting TRU’s English Language Proficiency Requirements for Academic Study).

If shortlisted, you will be invited to attend a mandatory virtual Program Orientation Session from the Animal Health Department. Attending the orientation session does not guarantee a seat in the program.

Shortlisted results: By the end of February or early March of the intake year.
Seat offers: Mid-March of the intake year.
