Barriere

The forest industry primarily drives Barriere’s economy, though tourism and agriculture—especially alfalfa farming—also play key roles in the local economy. The area's mineral-rich environment has also attracted mining exploration, though no mines are currently operational. However, the potential for large-scale industries like mining to establish operations in the region could lead to economic diversification, providing year-round employment and stimulating demand for various services.

TRUs Barriere Community Education Centre has been a cornerstone of education and training for Lower North Thompson Valley residents for nearly three decades. Situated at the Barrière and North Thompson Rivers junction, Barriere serves as a hub for individuals seeking to enhance their skills and expand their knowledge. The Centre offers various courses and programs to help individuals prepare for the job market and further their educational pursuits.

As Barriere continues to grow, with new businesses emerging and resources becoming more sustainable, the Community Education Centre remains vital in supporting workforce development for the future, ensuring that residents are equipped with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving economy.

TRUs Community Education and Workforce Development Coordinator is available to assist individuals, businesses, or agencies with courses, programs, or workshops that are customized to meet specific needs.
