StudentAid BC Service Disruption
Due to the BCGEU strike, StudentAid BC has been closed since September 24. As a result, no full-time or part-time student loan or grant applications can be submitted or updated. Since the service resumption date is unknown, we strongly recommend enrolling only in courses you can maintain without government funding.
If your existing application has been impacted and you need guidance on options including possible emergency funding, please email finaid@tru.ca with your student T-ID, a description of your situation, and your loan application number. Please note that StudentAid BC is unable to disburse any new or previously approved funding.
Full-time student loans and grants are designed to supplement the resources of those who could not otherwise afford post-secondary studies. The program is need-based, with need determined by means of a standard government assessment.
What is StudentAid BC?
In most cases you will need other resources. It is important that you do careful financial planning to make sure you will have enough money to cover all your educational and living costs for the duration of your planned schooling.
Eligibility for student aid
- Be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or have protected person status.
- Have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (the first digit between 1 and 7).
- Be a resident of British Columbia.
- Be fully admitted to an eligible TRU program of study.
- Be enrolled full-time in courses required for graduation from the eligible program.
- Be pursuing full-time studies as your primary occupation.
- Be able to demonstrate financial need.
- Make academic progress and achieve satisfactory scholastic standing in each period of post-secondary study.

Student aid deadlines
Your completed application must be received six weeks before your study program ends.
Recommended early deadline: July 15 (if funds are required by September)
You do not have to be accepted into your study program before applying for student assistance, but you will not receive any money until your school confirms you are enrolled in full-time studies and your study period has begun.
