Lecture Abstract
Emotions and emotion regulation are central to our everyday experiences, with implications for our well-being and mental health, decision making, and social behaviour. In this lecture, I shall share my research journey and the insights I have gained into the cognitive underpinnings of emotion regulation, the factors that shape our choice of different strategies, and the consequences of emotion regulation forindividuals and society. Drawing on empirical studies conducted with students, community members, and activists, both in the lab and in the field, I shall highlight how we can leverage emotion regulation as a tool to help us in our daily lives and the role of emotions in broader societal challenges.
The Inaugural Professorial Lectures are organized by TRU’s Professorial Lecture Committee, with generous support from the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.
