The installation of
DeDe DeRose Fourth Chancellor
of Thompson Rivers University
TRU proudly celebrated the installation of DeDe DeRose as TRU’s fourth chancellor on April 23, 2024.
Sun beams throughout the Grand Hall on the morning of April 23 as DeDe DeRose takes her oath of office in a ceremony steeped in tradition and infused with culture.
It’s my honour to stand before you as Thompson Rivers University’s fourth chancellor. This rates right up there with my family with the Canucks making the playoffs
says DeRose. The crowd laughs and claps.

Traditions
- The installation is a public acknowledgment of a new chancellor’s appointment to office.
- Installations are rich in tradition and include an oath of office—the new chancellor’s public declaration that they will carry out and honour the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the chancellor.
- Academic regalia, consisting of various coloured gowns, hoods, stoles and caps are customary in convocations and installations.
- It is tradition to invite chancellor from other universities to attend the installation. Greetings, typically in certificate form, are provided in person during the ceremony or other special event, or sent by mail and form the record of this historical occasion.
